INSEAD: The Family Enterprise Challenge

Professor Randel Carlock and past participant Tim Cosulich explain the benefits of attending the Family Enterprise Challenge

The next Family Enterprise Challenge (FAME)
5 - 9 October 2020
Fontainebleau, France
Every time I teach the Family Enterprise Challenge program, I am more convinced that education is the single best investment a business family can make.  It starts the family on a shared understanding of the challenges and opportunities they face and it empowers the family to improve their communications. These two steps are all that many families need to identify and implement the action steps they need to take to continue their family’s success.

I hope to see you and your family at the next Family Enterprise Challenge at INSEAD.

Protecting family harmony and strengthening business performance

Family-owned enterprises face multiple and often simultaneous succession events for management, ownership, governance and family leadership. This program teaches the skills, knowledge and attitudes required to effectively address these family business challenges.

Family owned firms are the most prevalent form of business organisation internationally, including some of the world’s leading companies. Contrary to popular perception, research shows that well managed family firms that plan for the future outperform their widely traded peers.
The Family Enterprise Challenge program offers a unique environment for you to better understand and address your specific family business issues. You will benefit from the latest thinking and best practices on a wide range of family enterprise topics. The program is designed so that you can immediately apply the learning to your own situation, and experience a higher level of communication within your family group. Strict confidentiality is maintained throughout the course.

By the end of this highly engaging program, you will:
  • Be prepared for all aspects of succession with greater understanding and insights into the challenges and dynamics of family leadership, business management, and family and business governance
  • Strengthen your social skills to work better together as a family. You will better understand the myriad of human dimensions and family functioning and improve communication skills with the family to better address conflict, manage complex family structures, diverse personalities and difficult relationships
  • Master family business planning and governance tools including: Fair Process; the Parallel Planning Process; coaching style communication and listening; and family meetings and agreements and a board of directors
